About the project
The INCIT project promotes a new approach to urban planning by helping municipalities move from traditional top-down decision-making to co-planning and co-design with citizens and local stakeholders.
Many cities develop strategic plans without involving the people affected by them, resulting in solutions that often fail to meet local needs. INCIT addresses this challenge by providing accessible digital tools and practical methods that enable collaborative planning, encourage citizen participation, and support more sustainable urban development.
The project is funded by HES-SO – University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland.
Our contribution
Our research focuses on identifying, adapting, and promoting participatory methods and digital tools that are easy to use by municipalities and local communities.
We:
- Analyse existing participatory platforms and best practices.
- Develop practical guidance for municipalities.
- Promote co-planning and co-design approaches.
- Support the adoption of open digital participation tools.
- Help local authorities engage citizens throughout the planning process.
Our goal is to make participation more accessible, efficient, and impactful while supporting the transition toward low-carbon and people-centred cities.
