MICAD - Metropolitan Inclusivity in Climate and Digital Transitions

The MICAD Project supports metropolitan regions in navigating the twin transitions of climate and digital transformation with inclusivity at the heart of its mission. Over the next three years (2025–2028), MICAD will co-create a practical framework to empower local and regional authorities to design inclusive policies for a just and sustainable future.

What is MICAD?

MICAD (Metropolitan Inclusivity in Climate and Digital Transitions) is a European research and innovation project funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme. It brings together a diverse international consortium to co-design five roadmaps for inclusive metropolitan planning in:

  • Barcelona (Área Metropolitana de Barcelona – AMB)

  • Tirana (Bashkia Tirane)

  • Milan (Città metropolitana di Milano)

  • Silesia Metropolis (Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia – GZM)

  • Chișinău (Primăria municipiului Chișinău)

Each roadmap will reflect local needs and capacities while providing transferrable tools for other cities undergoing similar transitions.

Our role in this project

We are contributing to MICAD by developing a toolkit to support local authorities in inclusive planning and governance and also providing capacity-building sessions to help local actors co-design and implement their climate and digital transition roadmaps.

The MICAD project officially launched in March 2025 in Chișinău, Moldova, where partners and local stakeholders gathered for a 3-day event. The kick-off included working sessions, a General Assembly, and an open exchange to align visions and define priorities.
